In 1995 High Plains Community Development Corp., Inc began as a housing development organization serving the four NW counties of Nebraska. The grassroots movement started in the City of Chadron rehabbing and demolishing dilapidated homes to replace with a new home. The project originally started by the Indian Center which received funds to work on 13 homes but had not completed any. With our own construction crew and lots of hard work HPCDC completed these homes. Our community development work expanded to the communities of Alliance, Hemmingford, and Gordon.
With the award of High Plains CDC's first HUD grant for the YouthBuild program creation using at-risk youth to educate through hand-on vocational construction skills and academic classroom knowledge for a GED or high school diploma we improved communities with housing development and youth education.
High Plains Community Development Corporation YouthBuild programs constructed, rehabilitated and renovated more than 50 homes and educated nearly 250 students during it's operation from 1998 - 2012.
In 2000 High Plains CDC became a HUD approved Housing Counseling Agency covering the 3rd District of Nebraska and for some services the state of Nebraska and Wyoming. Our counseling services expanded to include home-buyer education, closing cost assistance, credit and budget counseling, per-purchase & post-purchase counseling, Home Equity Conversion Mortgage Counseling and foreclosure prevention
We shifted our home-buyer education workshop to an online format in partnership with eHome America and one-on-one followup and individualized counseling.
Economic Development Housing Trust find awarded project funds to purchase and develop three homes for low-income families.
